Need for the course

Do you frequently ask yourself any of the following questions?
· How can we raise large sums of projects funds in a sustainable way?
· Why don’t we always get the kind of funding we need for our projects?
· Why do some organizations have tens of donors why we struggle to get even a few to fund us?
· Can we actually design cutting edge project proposals to attract a wide array of donor agencies?
· How can we leverage the power of social media to create new funding streams for our organization?
· Which are the most effective ways of managing donor grants and maintaining excellent donor relationships?
· How can we empower our projects teams on such critical grant management issues such as requesting and accounting for cash, per diems, keeping cash records, adhering to donor procurement procedures, strict adherence to grant contract obligations among others?

Donor resources are usually limited and in great demand from competing needs. Consequently, donors have to decide where best to use these diminishing resources in terms of geographical area, region, problem issue or challenge. This means that your organization needs to contextualize your project in such a way that you show that the problem or opportunity being addressed fits the donor concerns, that tackling the problem or using the opportunity in the area or areas defined in the project is important, and that the potential benefits to the targeted beneficiaries are significant and sustainable to fit within the broader aim of the project.

When writing project proposals for purposes of accessing donor funds, many writers confuse it with thesis writing and miss out on donor funding. This training will equip you with skills on the nature, extent and quality of information you need to provide the donor with well written and fundable project proposals.

Proposal Writing and Fund raising activities form the backbone of any development organization; hence, for sustainable strategies, organizations must enhance their skills and capacity on fundraising and proposal writing by equipping their key members of staff with the emerging and modern trends in Proposal Writing and Fund raising today.

Additionally, organizations dependent on donor funding will appreciate that effective delivery of project outcomes is dependent on the application of certain core principles in grants management among project staff. These principles are valuable in helping to build trust with your donors and making the management process in your organization more orderly. Effective grant management by project implementers can contribute to more funding for the organization.

During the four day training, participants will be taken through the generic project proposal in addition to proposal templates form major donor agencies including USAID,DFID,ECHO and others with a view to responding to traditional difficulties your teams have been having when responding to grant application to these organizations.

This forum provides you with an excellent opportunity for networking, sharing of insights and to learn best practices and strategies employed by various organizations in response to challenges arising from grant management processes.

OBJECTIVE:1 To increase access to diverse sources of donor funds through the upgrade of key competencies in proposal writing and fund raising among key personnel in NGOs, INGOs, FBOs, County governments, colleges and universities, research institutions and other professionals in the development sector.

OBJECTIVE: 2 To build/enhance the confidence and skills of those responsible for managing donor grants to effectively implement development programs within donors’ contractual terms and conditions.
